Ila McAfee studied art in Los Angeles, Chicago and in New York, where she met and married her husband, artist Elmer Page Turner. They spent their honeymoon in Taos and shortly afterward made Taos their home. She was known for her paintings of horses and animals as well as the lives of the people and landscape that surrounded her.
