Silent Kachina, or Shalako Warrior
Silent Kachina, or Nakiachop, the Shalako Warrior is a very early kachina and makes only rare appearances in the dances. It seems that very little is known about this protector of the Hopi Shalako, but is said to have participated in a very dangerous “ladder dance” over the Hopi village cliffs. This doll is made of cottonwood, paint, and string; the original feathers would probably have formed rays around the face. Dates from the early 2000s, 5 ½ inches tall.
