Tasap (Navajo) Kachina
This is a Hopi carving representing the Tasap, or Navajo, Kachina. The Hopi kachinas include those who respectfully embody other tribes who are present in the Hopi world; there are kachinas that depict Zuni, Comanche and other Pueblo groups.
This Tasap katsina wears a a pink “velvet” shirt, a long nose, and head gear, details that are peculiar to the Hopi notion of the Navajo. Tasap appears in the summer dances at Hopi.
