Madonna and Child Bulto, Florencio Caban Hernandez
Our Lady of Montserrate by Florencio Caban Hernandez (1876-1952), renowned Puerto Rican Santero; this is a beautiful cedar wood carving of a crowned Our Lady of Montserrate, (popular in Puerto Rico) who is solidly seated and presents the Christ Child in her lap. She is painted with a red robe with gold markings and a dark blue/black cape. The expressions of both figures are serene, in her left hand she holds a globe; the Child’s hands are missing, 3 ½ inches wide, 7 ¾ inches tall, and 3 inches deep.
