The Grandmother Kachina, or Mother Earth, is the mother of all the kachinas. When she appears in ceremonies, she often carries an ear of corn in one hand and a gourd filled with water in the other as an offering food to children, and blessing them by pouring water over their heads.

Flat kachinas, called cradle dolls, are traditionally given as gifts to baby girls.
